Notes from Reading

Notes from Reading:
- It takes 9 regions of the brain to read a sentence.

-Your brain is asking 6 questions while completing a reading circuit
     -Are these letters?
     -What do they look like?
     -Are they a word?
     -What does it sound like?
     -How is it pronounced?
     -What does it mean?

-Because of neuroscience and figuring out these regions of the brain we are able to re-wire the structure of the brain and treat illnesses like dyslexia.

Questions:
Reading is not a "survival trate" so why are our brains wired to do it?

1 comment:

  1. reading is a survival trait in most societies, and certainly in ours.

our brains were wired for other purposes, long before writing (or its reading) ever appeared. as the book explains, existing brain functions were available for use in reading.

please remember to look at the seminar thesis work of Gabrielle Burgess (Spring and Fall 2017), especially her exploration in three dimensional letterforms done in the Spring. (see her process books too, of course)
